Activities

Here are some of the activities you might enjoy... prices may vary.

Rolando Cordero, our property manager, is located in the area and has excellent relationships with all suppliers. We can arrange any tour or excursion free of charge.

Whale Watch/Snorkel Trip : 15A-12P ($75.00 per person) Ballena National Marine Park (5 minutes south)

There is a whale watching "combo" tour every morning at 8:15 am to see whales and dolphins and sea turtles, returning to Uvita around noon. The good news is that all the tour companies are in constant contact with each other, so if anyone sees the whales, everyone will see the whales! In addition, the boat stops to allow you to snorkel on the reefs and the underwater life is amazing. Many bright colors of fish on the reef, which is part of Ballena National Park. The price includes a ticket for the National Marine Park, valid all day. It also includes snacks, water and all snorkel equipment.

Caño Island Trip: 7A-3P $140.00 per person. All water based tours leave from the Ballena National Marine Park. (5 minutes)

There are also boat trips out to Caño Island (about an hour ride out), and you also spend time diving or snorkeling on the largest reef in Costa Rica, hike the island and then stop on the way back at a secluded beach for lunch. That is $140.00 per person and includes full day admission to the National Park and the Island, lunch, tour guide, snorkeling gear and life jacket, parking, snacks and beverages.

Corcovado National Park Trip 7A-3P $140.00 per person

Corcovado is a beautiful place deep within the Osa Peninsula. The boat takes you down the coastline, where you will tour the National Park, have lunch and return to Ballena Park, late in the day.

Rancho La Merced (10 minutes north)

Other activities that we recommend include a visit to Rancho La Merced for riding on the beach or in the mountains.

You can ride through the forest to a waterfall at 9am or 2pm ($ 50.85), or ride and visit the beautiful beach from Playa Hermosa ($ 50.85), or take a sunset tour ($ 56.50) ...the beach activities are organized according to the tides, the high tide being prohibitive ... The Rancho Rancho LaMerced's National Wildlife Refuge also organizes hiking, birding in the refuge with guides ($ 50.85) and "cowboy experience" ($ 50.85), where you ride with cowboys, cattle, cattle rope and enjoy various other activities on the ranch.

Beaches:

Marino Ballena National Marine Park (5 minutes south)

A beautiful water park, featuring the natural "Whales Tail" Beach formation.

Playa Hermosa (10 minutes north) I prefer this beach because there are lifeguards on duty all day. You have to be cognizant of the rip tides, and the lifeguards there are highly interactive. They both educate and keep an eye on you at all times.

Playa Dominical (30 minutes north)

Dominical is a bohemian surfing village. Restaurants, shops, walking promenade with local vendors. Dominical also has a bit of nightlife as well.

Playa Ventanas (25 minutes south)

A relatively secluded beach with several amazing cave formations. We do not recommend the cave exploration, as the tide can be tricky.

Waterfalls

Cascada Verde (5 minutes by car, 20 minutes on foot)

I would suggest visiting the Cascada Verde Waterfall just above us, (admission is 2000 Colones), where you can enjoy the natural pools, literally slide down the waterfall or dive from the high ledges if you dare.

Pavones (45 minutes south)

Beautiful. Relatively secluded. There is a sphere that bifurcates the waterfall, and no one can quite figure out how it came to be there.

Nauyaca Waterfall (45 minutes Northwest) $9.00 walking per person, $70.00 horseback per person

The Nauyaca waterfall is one of the crown jewels of Costa Rica. You can hike in, ride horseback in, or take a partial ride in on the back of a truck! This is an amazing waterfall. Actually, there are several. This would be a day trip, though depending on what time you set out, you could be home mid afternoon.

Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary (15 minutes north) ($25.00 per person, or $32. including lunch)

The Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary is another interesting circuit. It focuses on the rehabilitation and release of animals, but it also cares for those who can no longer survive in the wild. The duration of the visit is approximately 90 minutes.

Kokopelli Sierpe Mangrove Tour (1 hour south)

The morning visit to the mangrove swamp in Sierpe ($ 67.80 per person) is another visit our guests love. The fauna and flora are INCREDIBLE. The tour lasts 2 hours and takes you through the richest mangrove reserve in Central America. Macaws, herons, egrets, caracaras, kingfishers, hawks, crocodiles, sloths, caimans, snakes, turtles, etc.

Again, we are happy to book these tours at no extra cost. Operating a small Bed and Breakfast has the advantage of allowing our guests to make the most of their stay with us!

There is also a golf course south of us, as well as a large canopy zip-line adventure. We are also 2 hours north of the border with Panama.

Restaurants:

Just across from us you will find the Mosaic Restaurant & Wine Bar. Our guests love it. Fresh Sushi, Paninis, Vegan options, etc. Down at the bottom of the hill you will find Maracuya, which features street food from around the world, and Sibu, which is also highly regarded. If you would like something a bit more romantic, there are several high end restaurants to choose from as well. One is just up by the waterfall behind us, called Osa Thyme. Then in Ojochal (20 minutes), there are several to choose from as well!

There are several supermarkets, banks and access to ATM machines within 5 minutes of your cabin as well.
